About JCI Tartus

Junior Chamber International (JCI):

Junior Chamber International (JCI) is a global, non-governmental, non-profit organization founded in 1915 by Henry Giessenbier. It is the third-largest non-profit organization in the world . JCI includes about 200,000 active young members aged between 18 and 40, distributed across 5,000 local chambers in more than 120 countries (including Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Tunisia, Canada, UK, USA, France...).

JCI Syria:

JCI Syria is a non-governmental, non-profit organization founded in 2004 by a decision from the Ministry of Economy and Trade. It is affiliated with the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). JCI Syria includes ten local chambers in the following cities: Damascus, Jaramana, Old Damascus, Aleppo, Latakia, Tartus, Sweida, Homs, Banias,and Deir Ez-Zor. It has more than 1,000 members composed of active youth and citizens from universities, trainers, academic experts, and entrepreneurs.

JCI Tartus:

JCI Tartus was established in 2016 and currently includes over 75 young members aged between 18 and 40. Over the past eight years, more than 75 projects have been implemented across the four main development areas (Individual Development, Community Impact, Business and Entrepreneurship, International Cooperation) in partnership with many governmental and private entities on both local and national levels. Some of these partners include: Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Information, Tartus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor, Syrian Virtual University, Banks and Companies, Civil Society Associations, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).

Effective Leadership:

As an organization that follows a one year to lead philosophy, those in leadership positions take full advantage of their time and lead in the most effective way possible. JCI Tartus members acquire effective leadership skills needed to address the local, national and global problems of the 21st century. They are empowered to build their capacity and character to motivate others to take action for common purpose.

Project Management

In order to achieve JCI's mission to create positive change around the world, JCI Tartus members run projects following the JCI Active Citizen Framework creating sustainable impact in their community. Members develop their skills to create a project statement with clear objectives, identify and target meaningful partnerships, plan action steps and evaluate a project's success.

Networking

JCI Tartus helps members turn their personal contacts into lasting, trusted and productive connections and relationships. Members learn the principles and dynamics of networking, how to identify and use the opportunities when contacting people, the follow up actions needed after meeting the person to keep adding value to the connection and how to use the participation in JCI Tartus activities to build a reputation that will establish a network of connections for the future.

Social Responsibility

JCI Tartus aims to create awareness in Active Citizens that individuals have responsibility to their community and the environment and promotes the principles of United Nations Global Compact in the practice of business, encourages individuals to act responsibly in business and society and encourages the implementation of best Corporate Social Responsibility practices. Social Responsibility is recommended for people who seek to understand their role as Active Citizens within the community and the environment as well understanding the commitment that individuals can make to ensure the sustainability of our planet, and prosperity of people in the community.

Areas of Opportunity

INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT AREA

To provide the opportunity for the individual member to realize personal potential through training programs and especially Global Leadership Masterclasses. This area works on the individuals to become global communicators.

COMMUNITY IMPACT AREA

To develop the sensitivity of the individual member to societal problems and knowledge of community dynamics in solving these problems through actual experience using JCI RISE. This area works on individuals to become global changemakers.

INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION AREA

To provide the opportunity for the individual member to contribute to the development of goodwill, understanding, and cooperation among all peoples. This area focuses on TOYP Program "Ten Outstanding Young People" and works on the individuals to become global networkers.

BUSINESS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP AREA

To provide the opportunity for members to contribute to the development of the economic infrastructure, prosperity and well-being of all nations. This area focuses on CYE Program "Creative Young Entrepreneur" and works on the individuals to become global Entrepreneurs.
